A Look at the Significance of Land Reclamation
Talking of land reclamation, this is basically the process of having previously disturbed or used land to a state that brings it back to usefulness. Land reclamation by far and large happens to be such an important part of quite a number of industries such as mining, construction, agricultural and even the forestry industry, as a result of the fact that these are some of the industries that make use of several heavy earthmoving machineries that are known to cause a great disturbance to the soil. The land that has undergone such processes that cause it such disturbance by and large needs to be reclaimed so as to make them useful to the industries one more time and as well ensure that the environment thrive. As has already been mentioned above, land is used for quite a number of purposes and some of these include growing and harvesting trees, i.e forestry, agriculture where we use it for the raising of animals and growing food, build structures and buildings of various kinds, and as well for the extraction of natural resources in mining, among a host of other purposes to which we put land to.
Land reclamation is a process that has been with us for quite some time, in fact dating back centuries. And by far and large, we appreciate and duly need to acknowledge the reasons for land reclamation looking at the need to have a sustainable environment and as well for the health of the wildlife that depend on such an environment. Looking at the effects of human activity like farming and mining as we have already highlighted above, and the use of the earthmoving machinery that happens to be of a damaging effect on the lands, vegetation and the wildlife that depend on the same will naturally be impacted negatively and will not be able to flourish. There are far more other reasons why land reclamation will be necessary and these are like those instances where the beaches require restoration. The effects of wind and water erosion often carry such an impact on the beach sediments and as such for the sake of making sure that these areas are well maintained, some alternative methods must be sought as a matter of need and urgency.
Like has already been hinted above, one other industry that sits to benefit from the land reclamation processes is the farming industry. The water logged areas such as the wetlands and marshes will often be reclaimed by the farmers by having the water in them drained. Thus we see that by the land reclamation efforts, these parcels of land that were at one time so unusable will as such be turned into useful parcels that will be used for the production of agricultural produce such as fruits and vegetables.
